Pacific Crest Trail

This post was written in Danish in July 2017. It already carried a machine translation below the Danish original; that duplicate has been removed and the original translated properly, since it was the version that kept the links to every item.

As mentioned before, I need new gear for the trip, since I do not have anything light enough.

The plan is to land on a base weight of around 8 kg – (base weight being the weight of everything in the pack that cannot be eaten or drunk) so there is still room to haul food and water for several days at a time (food to last up to 7 days, depending on the section, and in the desert I have to carry about 6-7 litres of water).

I have been through various forums, blogs and so on, and settled on the gear I think is realistic to get hold of. If I want to go even lower in weight it all has to come from the USA, and that gets expensive. It is of course possible to buy a lighter tent, but the Big Agnes tent on my list has had really good reviews, and leaves room for me to keep the backpack inside the tent when it is pouring down.

Alternatively I could of course wait and buy it all when I get over there, but then I would not get the chance to test the various bits, or practise packing the backpack and pitching and striking the tent before departure.

Here is a list of the things I plan to get hold of (including links, for anyone who is into gear and wants more information):

If you have any suggestions or alternatives for hiking gear you think I should bring, or experience with something other than the things on my wish list? Do write it in the comments 🙂

My main goal is for everything to be as light as possible, but still without compromising too much on quality and comfort 😉

As I get hold of the things I need, they get crossed off the list, or I add to it when I think of something missing 😉 (some clothing and first-aid items are still missing.)

I will be filming the whole trip with my iPhone 7 Plus, using the Filmic Pro app, which gives better video quality than the iPhone’s own video app and at the same time allows more adjustment of colour, contrast and so on.

Gear: the full setup I carried on the PCT is on the PCT 2018 gear list.

Stay on the same line
