Gear Lists
Just the name Gear Lists makes me all warm and fuzzy inside 😉
Hikers are obsessed with gear. We research gear, we talk about gear, we watch other people talk about gear, we judge strangers’ gear in YouTube comments. On trail it eventually gets old — after a couple weeks you realize 90% of us are carrying some version of the same 12 things — but off trail? Oh, we will absolutely nerd out forever.
This section is where I keep my current setup. It changes depending on where I’m going (desert vs mountains vs cold vs “please no mosquitos”), so don’t panic if you see two quilts or three jackets in there. I’m not dragging a full bedding department up a mountain.
I’m always hunting for new stuff that makes the kit better: lighter, tougher, more comfortable, less annoying at 3 a.m. when it’s raining sideways. It doesn’t have to be absurd ultralight science-fiction gear to get my attention — if it works, I care.
So if you’ve got suggestions, I want to hear them.
I build and track most of my gear lists in LighterPack. It’s super easy to add items, see base weight, and get a clean overview without doing spreadsheet gymnastics at midnight. It’s free, it looks good, and it keeps me honest about how much junk I’m talking myself into carrying. Stop suffering in Excel. Use LighterPack. 😁
