This post was written in Danish in July 2017 and later translated into English. Only the language changed.
The language of my YouTube videos
I cannot make up my mind whether the language on my YouTube videos should be DANISH or ENGLISH.
There is no doubt that I am mostly speaking to my friends, acquaintances, sponsors and donors back home in little Denmark.
But there are also a lot of people on YouTube from other countries who might be interested in following my adventure (because I am THAT exciting 😉 )
I have noticed that the people I follow myself on YouTube, who have done the same trip or are on it right now, have been contacted through YouTube several times and offered help in the form of either a place to sleep (if they are near a given town) or a lift from the trail into town.
Some of the places you have to resupply are often 5-10 km away, and then you have to hitch – and it is not always easy to get a ride.
So there can be an advantage to doing the whole thing in English. It opens up the chance of getting help, but also of meeting even more interesting people 🙂
Broken English
My spoken English is what you would call reasonably OK. I have my lovely broken Danish accent, of course 🙂 but hopefully it will get some training along the way, since I am guaranteed to be speaking English with the other people I meet 🙂
Everyone back home understands English more or less, so I do not expect to lose any of you along the way.
Are you my translator?
The alternative is that I do it in Danish and put subtitles on (apparently you can do that through YouTube) – but that takes quite a bit of extra work on my part, and I simply doubt I will have the time or the energy to do it along the way.
Maybe I know someone who would be interested in helping with that? 😉
It would take a bit of commitment, since it has to be done fairly quickly after I upload the videos to YouTube (and there will often be several videos at a time, since wifi and phone coverage are pretty sporadic)
If you feel like helping with it, you are more than welcome to contact me.
