The Pacific Crest Trail was my first long-distance hike, actually, it was my first real hike ever, so when I started planning, I had no gear what so ever, which meant I had to buy everything. I spent months researching and reading about gear 🙂
During my researching, I realized that most of the gear that was recommended was basically the same across all websites/youtube videos, which kind of made it pretty easy to at least buy something that was tested and seemed to work. Next step was to figure out if I wanted Ultralight/expensive or Lightweight and more reasonably priced…
I chose the latter. primarily because I didn’t know my own comfort zone and some of the items aren’t available in Europe so buying an expensive backpack or UL tent and finding out it didn’t work, would be way to expensive.
Here is the list of the gear I used on my thru-hike of the Pacific Crest Trail:
Most of these items were bought on http://www.bergfreunde.eu and www.Trekkinn.com as they have some nice prices and a big selection.
My tent was kindly sponsored by www.Cookshop.dk which is where you can buy Big Agnes equipment in Denmark.
You can view my Lighterpack setup here. (which also includes weight etc.)
My plan was to do a video about it, but I never got around to doing it – and now I feel it is too late.
In march 2020 I will do the Arizona Trail (and The Great Outdoors Challenge, back to back) so I plan to do a video about my gear for those hikes instead.
