Current gear list
Here it is—my current gear setup! Not a wish list, not a shopping list—just the gear I already own and use.
You might notice that some items are doubled up. No, I’m not out here carrying two quilts like some kind of ultralight luxury sandwich; I just have different setups for different conditions.
Same might go for other items—sometimes you need options!
Also, while my current setup leans on the lighter (and pricier) side of things, don’t think for a second that this is the only way to hike. I wasn’t nearly this UL when I thru-hiked the PCT, and I still made it just fine. Gear is personal—find what works for you and go have an adventure!
My base weight is about 11 Lbs depending on what I bring, but I am at a point where I cant really get lower without compromising on comfort and leaving my camera equipment at home, which I am not ready for yet. But if you have any suggestions please let me know!
Now, let’s get into the nitty-gritty…
Big 3
- Hyperlite Mountain Gear Unbound 40 – This still has a lot of miles left in it, so I didn’t want to buy a new bag for this hike.
- Hyperlite Mountain Gear Southwest 3400 – So far it has survived Kungsleden and the CDT and still going strong.
- Zpacks Duplex Classic (white) – I really liked my Duplex and my last one got worn down while on the CDT, so I decided to just get a new one.
- UGQ XL-Bandit Quilt 10°F | 950FP – Amazing and warm Quilt, I love it.
- Western Mountaineering Astralite – Super lightweight and quite warm 26°F / -3°C Quilt (16 oz / 454 g)
Big 3 accessories
- Therm-a-rest Neoair regular Sleeping pad – I am still using Wing nut valve model, and not the new NXT model.
- MSR groundhog stakes
- Zpacks stake bag
- Tyvek groundsheet – footprint for tent, also useful during breaks etc. to sit/sleep on
Worn Clothes
- Ombraz Sunglasses
- Buff – CDT Buff, might as well just wear it down to nothing 🙂
- Triple Crown Button Down Long Sleeve | Blue Garden – I’m loving these amazing shirts from my pal Jollygear , and jazzing up the trail is my duty.
- Patagonia Nine Trails Shorts – 8″ – Discontinued, but this pair has one hike left in them.
- Darn Tough Socks
- Hyperlite Mountain Gear Versa Fannypack
- Topo Athletic Pursuit 2 – I am trying something new for this trail, if they suck I can always go back to Altra Lone Peak. The traction on Altra is really bad, so I want to try a Vibram again (I believe Altra had Vibram sole at one time, but I’m not sure).
Clothes
- OMM Halo Rain Pants – Super lightweight rain jacket
- OMM Halo rain jacket – Super lightweight rain pants
- Rain mitts – Generic Mitts from REI to protect the Zpacks gloves when raining
- Enlightend Equipment Torrid APEX Jacket
- Zpacks Possom gloves
- Kühl Valiant Long-Sleeve Base Layer – Sleeping shirt
- Generic base layer bottoms – Sleeping pants
- Silverlight Socks – Sleeping socks, and in a pinch extra socks for hiking
Electronics
- NITECORE NU20 classic – Lightweight headlamp
- Nitecore NB2000 Gen3 – 2000mAh Powerbank
- Garmin Fenix 6X Solar Pro – My trusty Garmin watch to track altitude and steps
- Wall Charger – Anker PowerPort III Nano (18W)
- Flextail Zero pump – I wanna see what all the fuss is about – do I really need a blower for my Therm-a-rest sleeping pad?
- iPhone 16 PRO MAX + case
- Cables – USB-C cable and adapter for Garmin watch (Finally all my stuff is USB-C apart from the Garmin watch.)
Camera Equipment
- Ricoh GR III – AMAZING camera, and still really small
- Extra battery for Ricoh GR III – for some reason 1 extra battery is enough to last for a few days. So no need to carry any more 🙂
- SD Cards – A few extra SD cards for the Ricoh GR III
- UltraPod – Mini tripod that can strap to stuff via velcro straps. (I am using the old version it seems, but it still works, so why change it)
- DJI Osmo Pocket 3 – My newest gear addition. I want to see if i can get better videos with a “real” camera instead of using my phone – and by better I mean the picture quality, which the Osmo should be able to do with a sensor that is WAY bigger than that of the iPhone.
Cooking & Food
- BRS-3000T Gas stove – SUPER lightweight and tiny stove, that so far has gotten me through EVERY trail since PCT in 2018, and it still works..
- Platypus quickdraw water filter – I think theres still a few filterings left in it, so I will just use it – normally I buy new filters pretty much for each long hike, but with the Platypus I can actually check if the filter is broken, so I don’t need to take any chances… And it still works 🙂
- Toaks Titanium 750ml cup – had it since 2018, and it still works like the day i bought it, pretty empressive.
- Toaks Titanium folding spork – used since PCT in 2018, and it is singing on last verse now, but it lasted a long time so well worth it!
- Deejo Knife – TINY Titanium knife for cutting food.
- Vargo Titanium Flint Lighter – Amazing lightweight flint lighter
Toiletries
- Wet ones – nice to have a clean face and a clean bum 🙂
- Hand Sanitizer
- Chapstick
- Toothbrush – Nothing fancy here, just a regular one that i removed the handle to better fit in my ziplock.
- Trowel – Duece of Spades Trowel, still going strong (it’s the same one that I bought for my 2018 PCT hike)
Misc
- Black Diamond Distance Carbon FLZ (2023 model) – Amazing trekking poles, that can fold down to almost nothing (and fit inside my backpack while in transit)
- Repair Bag – Different stuff for repairing shit on trail – patches for tent, sleeping pad, needle & thread, and some Luko tape for blisters.
